How pages are built

Start with a question
Each page should help a reader understand, compare, calculate, or inspect something.

Use visible sources
Sources are listed so readers can follow the material back to an institution, dataset, or paper.

Show uncertainty
Observations, estimates, model outputs, and open questions are kept distinct.

Update deliberately
Core pages carry a last-updated date and should change when the underlying evidence changes.
Source families
Depending on the topic, pages may draw from NOAA, NASA, Copernicus Marine, OBIS, IUCN, IPCC, UNEP, UNESCO IOC, Smithsonian Ocean, MBARI, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and peer-reviewed research. A source name is a starting point; readers should inspect the linked source for scope and method.

Measurements to log
Pair a second measurement of the same process with a time series with an explicit baseline. Record depth, location, date, units and sampling effort so a change in conditions is not mistaken for a change in the ocean.
Change signal
Compare “Start with a question” with “Use visible sources.” Decide whether the pattern represents exposure, response or recovery, and state the observation period needed to tell them apart.
